The Ecosystem Science and Sustainability Initiative and the Minnesota Journalism Center invite you to attend the 2nd annual Sustainability and Journalism workshop. Join us for two days of intense discussion with University scientists and other experts. You will gain valuable information about critical issues and timely insights about important policies related to water.
Scientific Panels will address these and other essential questions:
- How will growing populations, whether in the poorest nations of the world or in the driest states of our own country, meet their needs for safe drinking water?
- What implications do new technologies like ethanol have for water in the upper Midwest and beyond?
- How will climate change affect precipitation, droughts, floods, and fresh water both in Minnesota and around the world?
- What are the state, federal and international policies and regulations that are most critical to water management?
During this two-day workshop you will learn about these and other critical topics related to water and develop contacts among scientists doing cutting-edge research and experts on the front lines of water management. You will learn about aquatic ecosystems on the banks of the Minnesota River, and will hear about the complexities of seafood and fisheries issues from a renowned chef.
There is a $75 non-refundable registration fee but all other costs of the workshop and conference materials are paid for through a generous grant from the non-partisan Archibald Bush Foundation. Participants will need to cover their own travel expenses to Minneapolis, but meals, lodging and local transportation will be covered by this grant.
Space is limited to 30 participants, so RSVP by April 15th to ensure your place in this workshop. To register, visit our website: sustainability.umn.edu. If you have any questions, contact Kris Johnson at krisj@umn.edu or by phone at 612-624-9430.
