ABOUT "Supply, Demand and Deadlines: A Workshop on Economics for Journalists," will provide reporters, editors and producers from the business, economics, political and policy beats with insights into how to cover some of the most important but difficult economic and business issues facing our communities. The workshop will include extensive opportunities for journalists to work through sample stories, case studies and critiques of journalistic work in these subject areas. The conference also features a core group of "faculty" that teach economic principles, reporting techniques and the economic point of view. On June 15-17, 2003, we will hold our third "Supply, Demand and Deadlines" workshop, building on the foundation of two very successful events held at the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2002 and at the Wye River Conference Center in Maryland in 2000. Each year this conference features some of the top economic minds in the world. Lecturers for the "Supply, Demand and Deadlines" workshop have included:
The "Supply, Demand and Deadlines" workshop includes an opening reception and dinner on Sunday, breakfast and lunch both full days, dinner on Monday, and all workshop handouts and materials. The Minnesota Journalism Center and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis provide the funding for the workshop and meals. Participants are expected to pay their travel expenses to the Twin Cities, and their parking expenses on campus. For those attendees who require it, housing is provided at the Radisson Hotel Metrodome on the Minneapolis campus of the University of Minnesota. The cost of housing is also paid for by the workshop sponsors. |
